HARDWARE INFORMATION
 
1. What is E1200?
 
The Linksys E1200 is a Wireless-N router with four (4) Ethernet ports.  You can also use the router to share resources such as computers, printers and files.  Various security features such as SPI Firewall help protect your data and your privacy while you are online.  To know more about the E1200, click here.

2. What is the default IP address, username, and password to log in to the E1200’s web-based setup page?
 
The default IP address is 192.168.1.1.  The username and the password is “admin”.

3. How do I reset the E1200 to factory defaults?
 
There are two (2) ways to reset the Wireless-N router to factory defaults. 
 
•  Hardware Reset – Press and hold the Reset button located at the bottom panel for about five (5) seconds then release.
•  Software Reset – Access the web-based setup page, go to Administration tab > Factory Defaults sub-tab, click the Restore Factory Defaults button.

4. What is the warranty period of the E1200?
 
The warranty period is dependent on the country of purchase.  For more information about your device's warranty, click here.
 
5. How do I reboot the E1200?
 
You can power OFF the router first, then power it back ON, or you can click the Reboot button when you access the web-based setup page under the Basic Setup tab.
 
6. Does E1200 support remote management?
 
Remote Management is a feature that allows you to access and manage your Linksys router from a remote location.  You need to be connected to the Internet to be able to do remote management.  The Linksys E1200 supports this feature.  If you want to learn more about remote management, click here.
 
7. Does E1200 use the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi service?


No.  The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi is a free service that comes only with Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers (E4200v2, EA2700, EA3500, EA4500, EA6100, EA6200, EA6300, EA6350, EA6400, EA6500, EA6700, EA6900, EA9200, and WRT1900AC).

1. What is the default wireless network name (SSID) broadcast of E1200?
 
The default SSID of the E1200 is LinksysXXXXX
 
NOTE:  You have to upgrade your firmware to have LinksysXXXXX as your default SSID.  XXXXX is the last five (5) digits of the router’s serial number, which is found at the bottom of the router.
 
2. What are the security modes that the E1200 support?
 
The E1200 supports the following wireless security options:  WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode, WPA2 Personal, WPA Personal, WPA2/WPA Enterprise Mixed Mode, WPA2 Enterprise, WPA Enterprise, WEP, and RADIUS.  To learn how to set up wireless security on your device, click here.
 
3. Does E1200 allow VPN tunnels using IPSec, L2TP or PPTP protocols to pass through the router?
 
Yes.  The E1200 supports VPN tunnels using IPSec, L2TP or PPTP protocols to pass through the router..
 
4. Does E1200 support Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall?
 
Yes.  E1200 supports for SPI firewall.

5. How does Web Filter work?
 
Web Filter will filter Java, ActiveX, Cookies, and Proxy applications in the network.
 
6. How do I see who is connected to my wireless network?
 
You can view the devices that are connected to your wireless network by going to the router’s web-based setup page.  Under the Setup tab, click the DHCP Reservation button.  A list of all the MAC addresses of the wireless devices currently connected to your wireless network will be displayed.
 
FIRMWARE UPGRADE METHOD
 
1. How do I upgrade the firmware of the E1200?                                  
 
Step 1: 
Access your router’s web-based setup page.  To learn how, click here.  If you are using a Mac® computer, click here.
 
Step 2:
Go to Administration tab and select Firmware Upgrade.
 
Step 3:
Select the file to upgrade by using the Browse... button.
 
Step 4:
Click Start to Upgrade

2. What is the latest hardware and firmware versions release for the E1200?

SPECIAL FEATURES
 
1. What DDNS providers does the E1200 support?
 
DynDNS.org and TZO.com.
 
2. How many connection types does the E1200 support?
 
The router supports six (6) connection types:  Automatic Configuration - DHCP, Static IP, Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE), Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), Telstra Cable, and L2TP.
 
3. Does the E1200 support AP Isolation?
 
No.  The E1200 does not support AP Isolation.
 
4. Does the E1200 support wireless Quality of Service (QoS) and Internet Access Priority QoS?
 
Yes.  The E1200 supports wireless QoS and Internet Access Priority QoS.
 
5. Does the E1200 support transmission of the log information to a log server?
 
No.  The E120 does not transmit log information to a log server.
 
6. Does the E1200 lose the settings you have customized when its firmware has been updated?
 
Yes.  Before upgrading the firmware of your E1200, write down all your customized settings.  After upgrading its firmware, you will have to re-enter all of your configuration settings.
 
7. What is MAC Address Clone and what is it for?
 
Some Internet Service Providers (ISP) require you to register the MAC address of the modem, router or Ethernet adapter of the computer in order to access the Internet.  If you do not wish to re-register the MAC address currently registered with your ISP, you may assign the MAC address you have currently registered with your ISP to the router using the MAC Address Clone feature.
 
If you want to clone the MAC address of the computer that you are using to configure the router, then click the Clone My MAC Address button.  The router will automatically detect your computer’s MAC address, so you do NOT have to call your ISP to change the registered MAC address to the router’s MAC address.  It is recommended that the computer registered with the ISP is used to enable this feature on the router.
 
NOTE:  You may need to perform MAC Address Cloning when you have Cable Internet.  To learn how to set up MAC Address Cloning for your Cable Internet service, click here.
 
8. What is Diagnostics and what is it for?
 
The Diagnostics sub-tab on the router’s web-based setup page contains the ping and traceroute tools that can be used to check your network’s connectivity to the Internet.
 
9.  What is Port Forwarding?
 
Port Forwarding allows you to set up public services on your network, such as web servers, ftp servers, e-mail servers, or other specialized Internet applications.  To know the difference between Port Forwarding and Port Triggering, click here.  To learn how to set up Port Range Forwarding on a Linksys Wireless-N router, click here.
 
NOTE:  You can add up to 10 application names for Port Range Forwarding.  For Linksys E1200 v2, you can add up to 15 application names.
 
10. What is Port Triggering?
 
Port Triggering will forward port based on the incoming port specified.  Check your software application to find out what is necessary to enter in these fields.  You can set up to 10 port triggering entries.  To learn how to configure Port Range Triggering in your router’s web-based setup page, click here.
 
11. What is DMZ and what is it for?
 
Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) allows one local user to be exposed to the Internet for use of a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming and videoconferencing.  DMZ hosting forwards all the ports at the same time to one (1) computer.  However, Port Range Forwarding is more secure because it only opens the ports you want to forward, while DMZ hosting opens all the ports of one (1) computer, exposing the computer to the Internet.
 
12. How many network modes are supported in E1200?
 
It supports three (3) network modes - 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n.
 
13. What is wireless MAC Filter and what is it for?
 
Wireless MAC Filter prevents or allows connectivity to the wireless network with the use of the MAC address of the wireless device.  To know more about it, click here.
 
NOTE:  You can add up to 50 MAC addresses in the MAC Address Filter list.  For Linksys E1200 v2, you can add up to 32 MAC addresses.
 
14. What is UPnP?
 
Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) allows Windows to automatically configure the router for various Internet applications, such as gaming and video conferencing.
 
15. Does the E1200 have Guest Access and Parental Controls features in the web-based setup page?

16. What software does the E1200 come with?

NOTE:  Older versions of Linksys Connect for Mac® computers have compatibility issues with the latest release of Mac OS X® (10.7 Lion).  Only Linksys Connect versions 1.4.11222 and above are compatible with the Lion operating system.  For more information, click here.
 
17. Does the E1200 support IPv6?
 
No, the Linksys E1200 version 1 doesn’t support IPv6.  However, the E1200 version 2 supports IPv6.

18. How do I connect my mobile wireless devices and gaming consoles to my wireless network?

19. How do I connect my LCD/LED/Internet TV to the router wirelessly or using a cable?
 
Wired connection
 
Step 1:
Check if the DHCP server setting of the E1200 router is Enabled.  If it is not, you need to input a Static IP address on your TV.
 
NOTE:  To check if the DHCP server setting of your router is enabled, you need to access the router’s web-based setup page.  For instructions, click here.  Once you’ve accessed the web-based setup page, view the DHCP server setting under Setup > Basic Setup.
 
Step 2:
To connect your LCD/LED/Internet TV to the E1200 router using an Ethernet cable, check first if the TV has a LAN port.  If it has one, read the TV’s user manual for instructions on what type of Ethernet cable to use (Category 5, 6 or 7) then use it to connect the TV to any of the Ethernet ports on the router.
 
NOTE:  Checking the TV specification on the type of Ethernet cable to use is necessary to ensure that it will work properly once connected to the router
 
Wireless connection
 
Step 1:
Access the Network > Wi-Fi Settings menu of your TV and browse the list of detected wireless networks.
 
Step 2:
Select the wireless network name (SSID) of your router, enter the correct wireless password (if applicable) and select connect.
 
20. How many devices can connect to the E1200 wirelessly?

3. How do I disable the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) feature of my E1200?

The Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ is Enabled by default.  To disable this feature, follow the steps below:

Step 1: 
Access your router’s web-based setup page.  To learn how, click here.  If you are using a Mac® computer, click here.
 
Step 2:
Go to the Wireless tab and select Basic Wireless Settings.
 
Step 3:
Under WPS, select Disabled.
 
NOTE:  Ensure that your router's firmware is updated to have the WPS disable option.
