Title: Setting up the Wireless Settings on a Dual-Band A+G Wireless Router

Article ID: 4440

A Dual-Band wireless A+G broadband router is capable of broadcasting its wireless network over the Wireless-A and Wireless-G frequency bands.  You can enable both wireless standards at the same time or choose either.

To configure the wireless settings of a Linksys Dual-Band A+G router, follow these steps:

Step 1:
Access the router’s web-based setup page by opening a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Safari.  On the Address bar, enter your router’s local IP address then press [Enter].  When the login prompt appears, enter your router’s User name and Password.

NOTE:  The default local IP Address of Linksys routers is 192.168.1.1 while the default password is “admin” and user name field is left blank.  If you have set the password before forgot it, you need to reset the device.  For instructions on how to reset a Linksys router, click here.

Step 2:
When the router’s web-based setup page appears, click Wireless.

Step 3:
Set the parameters for the wireless settings.

For Wireless-A Settings:

Mode: Enabled (If you want to use this wireless mode, otherwise choose Disabled.)
Turbo Mode: Disabled (Using this mode enables high-speed connections but severely limits the signal range of your wireless router.  Choose Enabled if you want to use this function.)
Network Name (SSID): Enter a unique name for your Wireless-A network if you are going to enable it.
 Channel: Auto (DFS)
SSID Broadcast: Enabled (Otherwise, choose Disabled if you want to hide the Network Name (SSID) of your wireless router.)

For Wireless-G Settings:

Mode:  Mixed (If you want to use the both Wireless-G and B wireless standard, otherwise choose Wireless-G only or Wireless-B only to use either.  Choose Disabled if you don’t want to use this wireless mode.)
Turbo Mode: Disabled (Using this mode enables high-speed connections but severely limits the signal range of your wireless router.  Choose Enabled if you want to use this function.)
Network Name (SSID): Enter a unique name for your Wireless-G network if you are going to enable it (this should be different from the Network Name for the Wireless-A network).
Channel: Select either one of the recommended channels 1, 6 or 11.
SSID Broadcast: Enabled (Otherwise, choose Disabled if you want to hide the Network Name (SSID) of your wireless router.)

Step 4:
Click on .

NOTE:  After saving, you might want to check if the settings have been properly saved.  To do this, click on the Wireless tab.  If the settings have not been saved, do a router firmware upgrade.  This will update the firmware on your router which will fix bug issues and possible errors.  For instructions on how to upgrade your router’s firmware to the latest version, click here.  After the upgrade, perform the configuration steps for your wireless settings again.
