1. What is the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800?

The Linksys E800 Wireless-N150 Router is a high-speed single-band (2.4 GHz) 802.11n wireless router with IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack support.  This router can be used to share network resources to various wired and wireless devices such as laptops, mobile devices and gaming consoles.  It has four (4) fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) ports to connect wired devices to the network.  The Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800 also features security functions such as the SPI firewall to help protect your data and privacy online.

2. What is the default IP Address, Username and Password to login to the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800’s web-based setup page?

The default IP address is 192.168.1.1.  The username and the password is “admin”.

3. How do I reset the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800 to factory defaults?

There are two (2) ways to reset the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800 router to factory defaults.

•  Hardware Reset – Press and hold the Reset button located at the bottom of the router for about five (5) seconds then release.
•  Software Reset – Access the router's web-based setup page, go to Administration tab > Factory Defaults sub-tab, click the Restore Factory Defaults button.

4. What is the warranty period of the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800?

You can reboot your Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800 by powering OFF the router then powering it back ON.  The switch can be found at the back of the router.  You can also click the Reboot button under the Basic Setup tab on the router's web-based setup page.

6. What is the latest version of the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800 and how do I get it’s firmware version?

The default Wireless Network Name (SSID) of the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800 is Linksys000xx, wherein the last two (2) digits are the last two (2) digits of the router’s serial number.

FIRMWARE UPGRADE

1. How do I upgrade the firmware of the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800?

Step 1:
Access your router’s web-based setup page.  To learn how, click here.  If you are using a Mac® computer, click here.

Step 2:
Go to the Administration tab and select Firmware Upgrade.

Step 3:
Select the file to upgrade by using the Browse... button.

Step 4:
Click Start to Upgrade.

The Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800 does not support transmission of log information to a log server.  It can only view and save traffic logs to your computer.

Yes, that is why it is recommended to back up the router's settings before upgrading and resetting it.

8. What is MAC address clone and what is it for?

Some Internet Service Providers (ISP), especially Cable companies, require you to register the MAC Address of the modem, router, or Ethernet adapter of the computer in order to access the Internet.  If you do not wish to re-register the MAC address currently registered with your ISP, you may assign the MAC address you have currently registered with your ISP to the router using the MAC Address Clone feature.

If you want to clone the MAC address of the computer that you are using to configure the router, click the Clone My MAC Address button in the router's web-based setup page.  The router will then automatically detect your computer’s MAC address, so you do NOT have to call your ISP to change the registered MAC address to the router’s MAC address.

NOTE:  It is recommended to use the computer registered with the ISP to enable the MAC Address Clone feature of the router.

9. What is the MAC Filter feature for?

Wireless MAC Filter prevents or allows connectivity to the wireless network with the use of the wireless MAC address of the device.  To know more about it, click here.

NOTE:  You can add up to 32 Mac Addresses in the Mac Address Filter list.

10. What is Diagnostics and what is it for?

The Diagnostics (Ping and Traceroute) allows you to check the connections of your network devices, including connection to the Internet.

11. What is Port Forwarding and Port Triggering?

Port Forwarding allows you to set up public services on your network, such as web servers, ftp servers, e-mail servers, or other specialized Internet applications.  On the other hand, Port Triggering forwards port based on the specified incoming port.  You can set up to 10 port triggering entries.

12. What is DMZ and what is it for?

Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) allows one (1) local user to be exposed to the Internet for use of a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming and videoconferencing.  DMZ hosting forwards all the ports at the same time to one computer.  However, Port Range Forwarding is more secure because it only opens the ports you want to forward, while DMZ hosting opens all the ports of one (1) computer, exposing the computer to the Internet.

13. What network modes does the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800 support?

The Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E800 supports the following network modes:
