HARDWARE INFORMATION

1. What is the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900? 
 
The Linksys Wi-Fi Router N300 Simplicity, E900 is a high-speed single-band (2.4 GHz) 802.11n wireless router with Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4)/Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) dual-stack support.  This router can be used to share network resources to various wired and wireless devices such as laptops, mobile devices and gaming consoles.  It has four (4) fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) ports to connect wired devices to the network.  The Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900 also features security functions such as the SPI firewall to help protect your data and privacy online.

2. What is the default IP address, Username and Password of the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900? 

The default IP address is 192.168.1.1 and the username and password is “admin”.

3. How do I reset the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900 to factory defaults?

5. How do I reboot the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900? 

You can reboot your Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900 by powering OFF the router then powering it back ON.  The switch can be found at the back of the router.  Alternatively, you can click the Reboot button under the Basic Setup tab on the router's web-based setup page.

The default wireless network name (SSID) of the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900 is the device's brand name and the last two (2) digits of the router’s serial number.  The serial number is located underneath the device.
 
2. How many security modes does the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900 support?

FIRMWARE UPGRADE
 
1. How do I upgrade the firmware of the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900? 

Access your router’s web-based setup page, then go to the Administration tab and select Firmware Upgrade.  Select the file to upgrade by clicking the Browse... button then click Start to Upgrade.

The Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900 comes with Linksys Connect software version 1.4.  However, if you’re using the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900 version 1.2, the Linksys Connect software version should be 1.5

6. Does the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900 support transmission of the log information to a log server? 

No.  However, it allows you to view and save traffic logs to your computer.
 
7. Will the Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900 lose its current settings when the firmware has been updated? 

Yes, that’s why it is recommended to back up the router's settings before upgrading and resetting it.

8. What is MAC Address Clone and what is it for? 

Some Internet Service Providers (ISP), especially Cable companies, require you to register the MAC address of the modem, router, or Ethernet adapter of the computer in order to access the Internet.  If you do not wish to re-register the MAC address currently registered with your ISP, you may assign the MAC address you have currently registered with your ISP to the router using the MAC Address Clone feature.
 
If you want to clone the MAC address of the computer that you are using to configure the router, click the Clone My PC’s MAC button in the router's web-based setup page.  The router will then automatically detect your computer’s MAC address, so you do NOT have to call your ISP to change the registered MAC address to the router’s MAC address.  
 
NOTE:  It is recommended to use the computer registered with the ISP to enable the MAC Address Clone feature of the router.
 
9. What is the Wireless MAC Filter feature for? 

Wireless MAC Filter prevents or allows connectivity to the wireless network with the use of the wireless MAC address of the device.  To learn more about it, click here.
 
NOTE:  You can add up to 32 MAC addresses in the MAC Address Filter List.
 
10. What is Diagnostics and what is it for? 

The Diagnostics (Ping and Traceroute) allows you to check the connections of your network devices, including connection to the Internet.
 
11. What is Port Forwarding and Port Triggering? 

Port Forwarding allows you to set up public services on your network, such as web servers, ftp servers, e-mail servers, or other specialized Internet applications.  On the other hand, Port Triggering forwards port based on the specified incoming port.

12. What is DMZ and what is it for? 

Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) allows one (1) local user to be exposed to the Internet for use of a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming and videoconferencing.  DMZ hosting forwards all the ports at the same time to one (1) computer. 
 
QUICK TIP:  It is recommended to use Port Range Forwarding instead as it only opens the ports you want to forward when there is an incoming request from your computer.  DMZ hosting, on the other hand, opens all the ports of one (1) computer, continuously exposing the computer to the Internet.
