HARDWARE INFORMATION

1.  What is the Linksys RE2000 v2?

The Linksys Range Extender N600 Dual-Band, RE2000 v2 is a wireless dual-band range extender with two (2) Ethernet ports that simultaneously work for both bands.  It is designed to resolve wireless coverage and extend the wireless signal for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks at the same time.

2.   What is the default IP address, username, and password of the RE2000 v2?

When there is no DHCP server in the network, the default IP address of the RE2000 v2 is 192.168.1.1, otherwise the range extender acts as DHCP client.  The username and password is “admin”.

3.   How do I connect the RE2000 v2 to my router or access point?

There are three (3) ways to set up the RE2000 v2:

i.  By running the Setup CD that comes with the device.  For instructions, click here.

NOTE:  If you do not have the Setup CD, you can download the setup software from the Linksys Support Site.

ii.  By using the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) button on the range extender if your router also supports this feature.  To learn how to connect devices using this feature, click here.

iii.  By configuring the device through the web-based setup page.  To learn how, click here.

4.   Does the RE2000 v2 support WEP with ASCII format security key?

No.  The RE2000 v2 only supports WEP with HEX format security key.  If you are using the RE2000 v2 with a gateway that was set to WEP ASCII format, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to get assistance.

TROUBLESHOOTING

1.   My router is properly configured, why can’t my range extender detect or find any wireless network? 2.   What should I do if I encounter errors during setup? QUICK TIP:  You can also download the latest setup software of the range extender from the RE2000 v2 product support page to ensure that you are using an updated version.

3.   What settings do I need to prepare for the RE2000 v2 setup?

Before you start the setup process, make sure that you have the following: 4.    On the Status page, one of the wireless bands is grayed out but why is it still showing data?

The wireless radio will still send and receive data even if it is not connected to a network.  Your range extender will always be on standby to connect to your network anytime it will be available.  So, your range extender will still get signals since it is doing site surveys continuously.

SPECIAL FEATURES

1.   Does the RE2000 v2 come with a software for initial installation?

Yes.  The Linksys RE2000 V2 comes with an installation software in its Setup CD.  To learn how to install the Linksys RE2000 v2 using the Setup CD, click here.

The RE2000 v2 supports Quality of Service (QoS).

3.   Can I turn OFF the Ethernet port light on my RE2000 v2?

Yes, you can turn the Ethernet port light OFF on the RE2000 v2 by going to Status > Ethernet Statistics and selecting the Off radio button under Ethernet Port LED on the web-based setup page.

4.   Can I connect multiple wireless devices to my RE2000 v2 like my router or access point?

Yes, the RE2000 v2 acts as an extension to your router or access point so you can connect multiple devices to it.

5.   Can I check the connection of my network devices connected to the RE2000 v2 including their connection to the Internet?

Yes.  Use diagnostic tests (Ping and Traceroute) to allow you to check the connections of your network devices, including connection to the Internet.  You can do this by going to Administration > Diagnostics on the web-based setup page.

6.   Can I add more than one RE2000 v2 to my existing wireless network?

Yes.  But since the RE2000 v2 only gets the wireless signal from your main router or access point, adding multiple range extenders can provide you with even lower signal, thus, giving lesser bandwidth to your wireless computers or devices that you are going to connect to these additional extenders.

7.   Do I have to disconnect and reconnect to different SSIDs when I go anywhere in my house if I am using multiple range extenders?

No.  Even though you are using multiple access points or extenders in your network, you can still stay connected to any one of them as you move around the house since they would be configured using the same wireless settings like the SSID and the password.
