3. How do I reset the E2500 to factory defaults?

There are two (2) ways in resetting the E2500 to factory defaults:

The Reset button is located at the bottom of the router.  The LEDs and Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) button are at the back of the router.
 
5. How many USB ports does the E2500 v3 have?
 
The E2500 v3 has one (1) 2.0 USB port.
 
 
INITIAL SETUP
 
1. How do I install the Linksys E2500 router?
 
The Linksys E2500 router can be installed using the Linksys Connect software, also known as Linksys Connect software.  To learn how, click here.  You can also set up the router manually through the web-based setup page.  For Cable connection, click here, for DSL connection, click here.  If you are using a Static IP from your Internet Service Provider (ISP), click here.
 
2. Can I connect a printer to the E2500 using Linksys Connect?

Yes.  You can connect a printer on E2500 using Linksys Connect.  To learn how to connect a wireless printer, click here.  To learn how to connect a USB printer, click here.
 
NOTE:  You are only able to connect a USB printer using Linksys Connect on the Linksys E2500 v3.
 
3. What is the default IP address, Username, and Password used to log in to the E2500’s web-based setup page?

The default IP address of E2500 is 192.168.1.1.  There is no username and admin is the default password.
 
NOTE:  If the router is configured using the Linksys Connect software, the new wireless security key will also be the router's password.  If you are using an older version of Linksys Connect, it is not advisable to change the router's password using the web-based setup page once the password has been configured using Linksys Connect since this will cause the software to stop working.  To change the router's password or wireless security key using Linksys Connect, click here.

4. What version of Linksys Connect software does the E2500 come with and how do I install it?
 
The E2500 version 1 and 2 comes with Linksys Connect software version 1.3 whereas the E2500 v3 comes with Linksys Connect software version 1.5.  To find out how to install Linksys Connect software, click here.
 
NOTE:  Older versions of Linksys Connect for Mac® computers have compatibility issues with the latest release of Mac OS X® (10.7 “Lion” and higher).  Only newer versions of Linksys Connect such as 1.4.11222 and later versions are compatible with the latest  operating system of Mac®.  For more information, click here.  For the Linksys Connect compatibility list, click here.
 
5. What web browser and operating system is the E2500 compatible with?
 
The Linksys E2500 router that you purchased comes with a setup CD for the Linksys Connect software.  This allows you to set up your router easily.  It is compatible with the following:
 
Internet Browser Windows OS Mac OS X® NOTE:  If you are using Mac OS X® Lion or higher, make sure that you install Linksys Connect 1.4, since it is the only compatible version with the operating system.  Read more about this here

WIRELESS SECURITY

1. What is the default wireless network name (SSID) of E2500?
 
The default wireless network name of E2500 is Linksysxxxxx

NOTE:  The xxxxx is the last five (5) digits of the serial number of the router.  You have to upgrade your firmware to have LinksysXXXXX as the default SSID.
 
2. What wireless security modes do the E2500 support?
 
It supports Wi-Fi Protected Access WPA/WPA2 Mixed mode, WPA2/WPA Personal, WPA2/WPA Enterprise, Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) and RADIUS.
 
FIRMWARE UPDATE
 
1. How do I update the firmware of the Linksys E2500 wireless router?

2. Does the E2500 lose the settings that I have customized if I update its firmware?

1. What is Port Forwarding?
 
Port Forwarding is a feature that allows you to set up public services on your network, such as web servers, FTP servers, email servers or other specialized Internet applications.
 
2. What is Port Triggering?
 
Port Triggering is an application that allows you to trigger port/s based on the incoming port specified. 
 
3. What is MAC Address Clone and what is it for?

Some Internet Service Providers (ISP), especially Cable companies, require you to register the MAC address of the modem, router, or Ethernet adapter of the computer in order to access the Internet.  If you do not wish to re-register the MAC address currently registered with your ISP, you may assign such MAC address to the router using the MAC Address Clone feature.
 
If you want to clone the MAC address of the computer that you are using to configure the router, click the Clone My MAC Address button.  The router will automatically detect your computer’s MAC address, so you do NOT have to call your ISP to change the registered MAC address to the router’s MAC address anymore.  It is recommended that the computer registered with the ISP is used to enable this feature on the router.  To know more on how to configure a Linksys router with Cable Internet Service, click here.
 
4. What are Radio Band, Standard and Wide?

The Radio Band gives you two (2) options:  Auto and Standard – 20 MHz channel.  The standard channel is what all B/G/N devices use.  If you select Wide channel for the Radio Band setting, then Wireless-N can use both primary (Auto) and secondary (Standard Channel) channels.  This will improve Wireless-N performance.
 
5. What DDNS provider does E2500 support?

It supports DynDNS.org and TZO.com.
 
6. What is Diagnostics and what is it for?

Diagnostics is used to check Internet connection and application "ping”, "trace route” command to check your network’s connectivity to the Internet.
 
7. What is DMZ and what is it for?

Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) allows one (1) local user to be exposed to the Internet for a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming or video conferencing.  DMZ hosting forwards all the ports at the same time to one (1) computer.  However, Port Forwarding is more secured because it only opens the ports you want to forward, while DMZ hosting opens all the ports of one (1) computer, exposing the computer to the Internet.
 
8. Which dynamic routing protocol is supported on E2500?

It is compatible with RIP/RIPv2 dynamic routing protocol and 20 static routings at most.
 
9. Can the IP address number assigned by DHCP server be more than 253?

No.  The default number is 50.
 
10. Does the E2500 support wireless Quality of Service (QoS) and Internet Access Priority QoS?
 
Yes.
 
11. Does E2500 allow users to transmit the log information to a log server?
 
No.
 
12. How many Internet connection types are supported by the E2500?
 
The E2500 supports six (6) Internet connection types:  Automatic Configuration – DHCP, Static IP, Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE), Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), Telstra Cable, and L2TP.
 
13. Does it have Guest access and Parental controls in the web-based setup page?

14. Does it still have the Advanced Wireless Settings tab in the web-based setup page?

No.  The Advanced Wireless Settings tab has been removed from the web-based setup page.
 
15. Can I turn OFF the rear port lights through the web-based setup page?
 
Yes.  To learn how to turn the rear port lights ON or OFF, follow the steps below:
 
Step 1:
Launch the router’s web-based setup page.  If you are using a computer with Windows operating system, click here.  If you are using a Mac®, click here.

Step 2:
Click on the Status tab, then click on the Ports sub-tab.

Step 3:
On the Rear Port Lights tab, select OFF.

Step 4:
Click on Save Settings to apply changes.

Web Filter is a feature that filters Java, ActiveX, Cookies, and Proxy applications in the network.

3. How many computers can I connect to my E2500 Linksys router?
 
The Linksys router is capable of four (4) wired connections using an Ethernet cord and 32 wireless computers or devices.
 
4. How can I check the devices that are connected to my router? 
 
There are two (2) ways in checking the devices that are connected to your router.  If you have installed the Linksys Connect software, a notification under the Computers and devices section informs you of the number of devices that are connected to the router.
 
However, if you prefer a more detailed list, you may access the DHCP Client Table on your router’s web-based setup page where you can find the IP address, MAC address, and other necessary details of the devices connected to your router.  For detailed instructions, click here
 
5. How do I verify my computer’s connection to the network?


There are two (2) ways to verify your computer’s connection to the network.  You can either check your computer’s Internet connectivity or connection to the router.

6. What should I do when I can’t connect to the Internet?

7. If all else fails in the installation, what can I do?

First, you can reset the router.  To do this, press and hold the Reset button for 30 seconds until the Power LED turns ON and OFF.  You can also powercycle your Cable or DSL modem by unplugging the power cord from the power outlet for at least a minute then plug it back in.  Then update the firmware of your router.  For instructions on how to upgrade your router’s firmware, click here.
