Title: Connecting gaming consoles to the wireless network

Adding wireless network profiles to gaming consoles such as PlayStation®3Xbox 360® DS™/ DSi™, and PlayStation®Vita, allows you to access and connect to your preferred network wirelessly.  Some of the benefits of connecting these consoles are playing online games and buying from a wide variety of online games.
 
Below is the list of gaming consoles and the different ways of connecting them to a specific network.

PlayStation®3
Xbox 360®
Nintendo DS™/ DSi™
PlayStation®Vita

PlayStation®3

If your device fails to connect automatically, you can try connecting your device to various network profiles manually.  The steps below will guide you in manually adding wireless network profiles on your PlayStation®3.

NOTE:  Use the PlayStation®3 controller to navigate through the settings.

Step 1:
Power ON your PlayStation®3, go to Settings and select Network Settings.

Step 2:
Scroll down and make sure that the Internet Connection is set to Enabled.

Step 3:
Scroll down to Internet Connection Settings and press O.

 

NOTE:  If a prompt appears, choose OK to begin the setup.  You will then be disconnected from any active Internet connections.

Step 4:
Select Easy and press right.

Step 5:
Choose Wireless and press right.

Step 6:
Under WLAN Settings, choose Enter Manually and enter your Network Name (SSID).

 

Step 7:
You should see a list showing WLAN Security Setting.  Select WPA-PSK/ WPA2-PSK on the list and press right.

Step 8:
If you selected a security mode, press O to begin entering the network’s passphrase.  Press Start or [Enter] after entering the passphrase then press right on the D-pad to review your settings.

NOTE:  WPA keys are case sensitive.  WEP keys are hexadecimal (0-9 and a-f) characters and are not case sensitive.

Step 9:
Wait as your device checks the Network Configuration.

Step 10:
Make sure that you have entered the correct settings then press O.  Once you’re done, press O again to begin testing your connection.

Tests should show Succeeded if the settings are configured correctly and Internet connection is available.

Xbox 360®

NOTE:  This article assumes that you have already connected your Xbox 360® to your TV.  Below are the steps on how to add wireless network profiles on your Xbox 360®.

Step 1:
Using the directional buttons, navigate to the settings option.

Step 2:
Select System.

Step 3:
Select Network Settings.

Step 4:
Select Advanced Options, then click the button on the controller.

Step 5:
Select Specify Unlisted Network, then click the button on the controller.

Step 6:
Enter the SSID of your network.  This is the wireless network name of your router, then select Done.

Step 7:
Select WPA Passphrase.

Step 8:
Enter the Network’s Passphrase, then Select Done.

NOTE:  This window will prompt if you have entered either a wrong Network Passphrase or wireless network name SSID.

Step 9:
Wait as your device is checking for live connection.  When it’s done, select Continue and then press the button on the controller.

Your Xbox 360® should now be connected to the wireless network. 

Nintendo DS™/ DSi™

Connecting your Nintendo DS™/ DSi™ to the Internet allows you to access various online functions such as multiplayer and Nintendo eShop.  The steps below will guide you in manually adding wireless network profiles on your  Nintendo DS™/ DSi™.

Step 1:
Tap Start.

Step 2:
Tap Right Arrow.

Step 3:
Tap Internet.

 

Step 4:
Tap Connection Settings.

Step 5:
Select and tap any of the three Connections.

Step 6:
Tap Manual Setup.

Step 7:
Tap and enter your wireless network name (SSID), then tap OK.

Step 8:
Check your SSID, then tap Arrow Right.

Step 9:
Enter Security Settings if applicable, then tap Arrow Right

Step 10:
Select Yes, then tap Arrow Right

Step 11:
Check your MTU Value, then tap Save.

Step 12:
Tap Yes to begin connection test and wait as your device starts the connection test.

This window should appear if you have successfully added your network profile.

PlayStation®Vita

Connecting your PlayStation®Vita to a wireless network allows you to access the Internet.  Once you successfully added wireless network profiles to your device, it will automatically attempt to re-connect to the previous networks it has connected to.

Below are the steps in adding wireless network profiles on your PlayStation®Vita.

Step 1:
Tap Settings.

Step 2:
Tap Continue.

Step 3:
Tap Network.

Step 4:
Tap Wi-Fi Settings.

Step 5:
Tap Save Access Point Manually.

Step 6:
Tap Enter Manually.

Step 7:
Tap and enter your wireless network name (SSID).

NOTE:  Make sure to recheck and enter your SSID correctly to be able to add wireless network profiles successfully.

Step 8:
Tap and select your Security Method.

NOTE:  The Security Method is only applicable if there is a specified Security Mode in the router.

Step 9:
Select and tap the Security Method of your router, then tap X.

NOTE:  Select a Security Method that is similar to your router.  If you disable the Security Mode of your router, Tap X.

Step 10:
Tap OK.

This window should appear if you have successfully added your network profile.
