Title: Updating the driver of your Linksys Wireless-N USB Adapter

This article will show you how to update the driver of your Linksys Wireless-N USB Adapter.  Before updating the driver of your wireless adapter, download its latest driver from the Linksys Support Site.  For instructions on downloading drivers, click here.
 
Make sure your computer has an active Internet connection.  If your computer is directly connected the router using an Ethernet cable and is unable to go online, disconnect it from your router and connect your computer directly into your Cable or DSL modem.  If there’s no Internet connection, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

QUICK TIP:  Check if your computer meets the minimum requirements of the adapter to ensure compatibility of the system.  The requirements should be on the documentation that came with it.

NOTE:  In this example, the AE2500 wireless adapter was used.

Windows 7/Vista
Windows XP
Manual Installation

To update the driver of your wireless adapter, follow the steps below:

Windows 7/Vista

Step 1:
Right-click on the Computer icon on your desktop then click Properties.

 

Step 2:
Click on the Device Manager option under the Control Panel Home category.

            

Step 3:
Right-click on Linksys AE2500 or the name of your adapter.  Click the Update Driver Software… option.

 

Step 4:
Select an option on how you want to search for driver software. 

 

When the browser screen appears, click Browse… to find the location of your adapter’s driver.  Click Next to begin the updating process.

A Select Network Adapter prompt will appear displaying the adapter that matches your hardware, select Linksys AE2500 then click Next.

A window similar to the image below will then appear informing that your driver software is successfully updated.  Click Close to exit.

Windows XP

Step 1:
On your desktop, locate and right-click on the My Computer icon then click on Properties.

 

Step 2:
Select the Hardware tab and then click on the Device Manager button.

 

Step 3:
Look for Network adapters, right-click on Linksys AE2500 or the name of your adapter then click the Update Driver Software… option.

 

Step 4:
Select an option on how you want to search for driver software.

NOTE:  If you want to manually install the drivers, select No, not this time

Manual Installation

Step 1:
Plug in the Linksys adapter.

Step 2:
When the Hardware Update Wizard appears, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).  Then click Next.

 

Step 3:
Select Search for the best driver in these locations to limit or expand the default search to either local paths or removable media.

NOTE:  Selecting Don’t Search. I will choose the driver to install. option allows you to choose a driver from a list.  The driver you choose may or may not match for your adapter.

Step 4:
After choosing your search and installation options, the Setup Wizard will search for the driver. 

Step 5:
When the Completing the Hardware Update Wizard screen appears, click Finish.

Your Linksys Wireless-N driver software should be now updated.
