Title: Setting up Static IP on a Linksys Video Camera

Setting up Static IP address on a Linksys video camera is necessary if you want to view your camera from outside your home network.  This helps in making it easier for your computer to communicate with your camera.

This article will show you how to set up Static IP address on your Linksys video camera using the following operating systems:

Windows XP
Windows Vista/Windows 7

NOTE:  If you haven’t installed your camera using the Setup Wizard yet, click here for instructions.  Ensure that the camera is connected to the router before doing the following procedure:


Windows XP

Step 1:
Launch the camera utility .

Step 2:
On the camera utility’s main window, click on Setup located at the bottom-left corner.

 

Step 3:
Wait while the camera utility searches for Wireless-G cameras connected to your home network.

Step 4:
Select the camera you want to configure and click on the Advanced Configuration button.

 

NOTE:  When you click on the Advanced Configuration button, it launches the default web browser on your computer.

Step 5:
On the camera’s web-based setup page, click on Setup.

Step 6:
Enter your camera’s User Name and Password.

NOTE:  The default User Name and Password is “admin”.

Step 7:
On the Setup tab, look for the Configuration Type and select Fixed IP Address.

NOTE:  IP Address settings may vary depending on your network configuration.  In this example, these settings are used:

IP Address: 192.168.1.115
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

QUICK TIP:  Most Linksys routers are configured to have 192.168.1.1 default gateway.  Therefore, you may just choose an IP address within the range of 192.168.1.2 – 192.168.1.253.  The default subnet mask of Linksys devices is 255.255.255.0.

NOTE:  If you’re using a non-Linksys router, refer to your router documentation or contact the device manufacturer for assistance.

Step 8:
Click on Apply to confirm your new configuration

Windows Vista/Windows 7

Step 1:
Launch the camera utility .
