Title: I am getting a “Cannot access your router” message

Scenario:

When you are trying to access your router’s settings in Linksys Connect, you encounter the Cannot access your router message.

 

There are three (3) reasons why you are getting this error message:

NOTE:  The latest version of Linksys Connect will automatically synchronize any changes in the wireless settings made through the web-based setup page.

Solution:

There are three (3) ways to resolve this issue:

i.    Manually connect to your wireless network
ii.   Update your Easy Setup Key
iii.  Reset the router and re-install Linksys Connect on your main router

Manually connect to your wireless network

One of the reasons why you are unable to access the Router Settings using Linksys Connect is because your computer is connected to a different wireless network.  Make sure you are connected to the main network, not the –guest network.  To learn how to manually connect to your wireless network without using the Easy Setup Key, click here.

NOTE:  It is recommended to connect your computer to your router with an Ethernet cable when configuring your router’s settings using Linksys Connect or in the web-based setup page.

Update your Easy Setup Key

To update your Easy Setup Key, you will need to temporarily connect your computer to the Linksys wireless-N router using an Ethernet cable.

NOTE:  The image of the devices may vary depending on the model of your router or the type of computer you are using.

After connecting your computer to the router, you should be able to access your Linksys Connect software.  You can update your Easy Setup Key and then reconnect to your wireless network.  To learn how to update your Easy Setup Key, click here.  When the update is done, you can unplug the Ethernet cable and then follow the onscreen instructions on the Easy Setup Key wizard.

QUICK TIP:  If you are still unable to access the Linksys Connect software, proceed to Option 3.

Reset the router and re-install Linksys Connect on your main computer

Changing the router password in the web-based setup page may prevent you from being able to access your router settings in the Linksys Connect software.  To resolve this issue, you can reset your router to factory default settings, uninstall and reinstall the Linksys Connect software on your main computer, then reconfigure your router’s settings through Linksys Connect.

QUICK TIP:  When reconfiguring your router with Linksys Connect, it is much recommended to connect your computer to your router using an Ethernet cable.
