SPECIAL FEATURES

1. What is Linksys Smart Wi-Fi?

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi is a free service bundled with the new Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers.  This allows you to configure your router settings locally or remotely over the Internet by creating a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account which you will need to activate and associate with your router.  The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi gives you secure access to your home network from a browser or mobile device.  You can instantly tap into your home network to check the connection status of your devices, give a guest access to the Internet, or block your child's computer or devices from accessing social networking sites when they should be doing their homework.  You can even prioritize what devices on your network get the most bandwidth to eliminate lag times and buffering and, over time, continue to get new apps and capabilities that will enrich your connected lifestyle.

2. What mobile devices are supported with Linksys Smart Wi-Fi App?

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi App for the web supports Android™ mobile phones and tablets, iOS mobile phones, iPad® tablet, and Kindle Fire.  The supported mobile device OS are the same as those compatible with the earlier Linksys Smart Wi-Fi App version:  Apple® iOS 4.2.1 or later (iPhone® and iPad®) Android™ 2.2 or later (smartphones and tablets).

NOTE:  Amazon, Kindle, Kindle Fire, the Amazon Kindle logo, and the Kindle Fire logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.

3. How do I access multiple routers from different locations?

Using your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account, you can access network settings for multiple routers (networks).  For example, if you installed a router in your home and another router in your parent’s home, and you created a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account, you can access settings for both routers.  You can open Linksys Smart Wi-Fi and access your parent’s router and make changes at any time, from anywhere.  The name of the router currently being accessed is shown at the top of the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi page.  Click the drop-down menu next to the router name to select a different router name.  The settings for that network will display.

4. What is Guest access?

Guest access is a way for guests in your home to use your Internet connection without having access to your other computers or devices.  For example, your friends can access the Internet in your home, but they can’t access a printer or any shared files on your home computers.  It’s similar to a public Wi-Fi connection at a coffee shop or hotel.  When you set up your router, a secure guest network was created automatically on the routers 2.4 GHz band.  Guest access is only available on this band.

5. What is Parental Controls?

Parental Controls allow you to limit what your kids can do online on their computers or other devices such as a gaming system with Internet access or smartphone.  Controls are set for specific devices, not for the entire home network.  So you can have different limits for computers and devices used by younger children, teens or adults in your home.

6. What is Media Prioritization?

Media Prioritization lets you decide which devices or applications get network bandwidth priority.  For example, if you have a smart TV or a computer that you often stream movies with, you can move that device to the top of the priority list so that it gets the bandwidth it needs to keep movies running smoothly without interruption.  It won’t have to compete with other devices on your network for bandwidth.  To know more about the Media Prioritization Tool, click here.
