HARDWARE INFORMATION

1.   What is the WAP610N?

The WAP610N is a Wireless-N Access Point with Dual Band based on IEEE 802.11n and optimized for video transmission.  WAP610N can operate in either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz radio bands and it is backward-compatible with widely deployed 802.11a/b/g infrastructure.

2.   What is the default IP address of the WAP610N?

There is no default IP address.  The device uses DHCP from your router to get an IP address.

3.   What is the default password used to access the web-based setup page of the WAP610N?

The default password is admin.

4.   What is the speed of the Ethernet port on the WAP610N?

The speed is 10/100 Mbps.

5.   How can I reset the WAP610N to factory defaults?

To reset your WAP610N to factory defaults, press and hold the Reset button at the access point’s back for 30 seconds.

Alternatively, you can also reset the WAP610N by following these steps:

Step 1:
Log in to the access point’s web-based setup page.

Step 2:
Click on Administration tab > Factory Defaults sub-tab.

Step 3:
Click on Restore All Settings.

6.   What power adapter does the WAP610N use?

The WAP610N adapter uses 12 Volts, 1 Amp.

7.   Can the antennas be replaced?

No, the device uses internal antennas which are the only ones the WAP610N can use.

8.   Is there a wall mount available for the WAP610N?

There is no wall mount available for WAP610N.

LEDs

1.   What LEDs does the WAP610N have?

POWER (Blue):
The Power LED lights up to indicate that the access point is powered ON.

WIRELESS (Blue):
The Wireless LED lights up when there is a wireless connection.  The LED flashes when the access point is actively sending or receiving data over the wireless network.

WPS:
The LED flashes blue for two (2) minutes during Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) synchronization.  It lights up blue when wireless security is enabled.  If there is an error during the WPS process, then the LED lights up amber.

ETHERNET (Blue):
The Ethernet LED lights up when there is a wired connection.  The LED flashes when the access point is actively sending or receiving data over the Ethernet port.

WIRELESS SECURITY

1.   What type of wireless security does the WAP610N use?

The WAP610N is compatible with six (6) wireless security types, including WEP 64/128 bit, WPA, WPA2, WPA Enterprise, and WPA2 Enterprise.

2.   Does it support a RADIUS server?

Yes.

3.  Does the WAP610N support WEP with ASCII format?

No.  The WAP610N only supports WEP with HEX format security key.  If you are using the WAP610N with a gateway that was set to WEP ASCII format, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to get assistance.

SPECIAL FEATURES

1.   Can I configure WAP610N by HTTPS?

No.

2.   Can I use the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands at the same time?

No, only one (1) band can be used at a time.

3.   Does the WAP610N support Power over Ethernet (PoE)?

The WAP610N does not support Power over Ethernet (PoE).

4.   Can I connect the WAP610N to a device that has an Ethernet port and make it wireless, for example, a TiVo®, Set top box, game console, Blu-ray™ Disc player, etc?

No, WAP610N can only work in access point mode.  You will need an access point with bridge mode capability, e.g. WET610N, to connect other devices wirelessly.

FIRMWARE UPGRADE

1.   How do I upgrade the firmware on the WAP610N?

Step 1:
Go to the access point’s web-based setup page.  To learn how, click here.

Step 2:
Click on Administration > Firmware Upgrade tab, click the Choose File button and select the new firmware file.

NOTE:  To learn how to download the latest drivers or firmware from the Linksys Support page, click here.

Step 3:
Click the Start to Upgrade button.

NOTE:  Do not power OFF or press the Reset button while upgrading the firmware of the access point.  The WAP610N will reboot automatically after the firmware upgrade is completed.
