HARDWARE INFORMATION

1. What is the default IP address, Username and Password to login to the EA4500?

The default IP address is 192.168.1.1 and “admin” is the default username and password.

2. How can I reset the EA4500 to factory defaults?

There are two (2) ways to reset the EA4500 to factory defaults:

Hardware Reset - Press and hold the Reset button at the back panel of the EA4500 for about 10 seconds then release.

Software Reset - Reset the router through the web-based setup page.  Open an Internet browser then enter the default IP address of your router which is 192.168.1.1.  Under the Administration tab, select the Factory Defaults sub-tab then click the Restore Factory Defaults button.

3. What is the warranty period of the EA4500?

The warranty period is dependent on the country of purchase.  For more information about your device’s warranty, click here.

4. How can I reboot the EA4500?

You can turn the EA4500 OFF and ON by unplugging the power cord and plugging it back.

5. What can be used with the USB port on the EA4500?

It can either be used to add a USB storage device like a hard drive/flash disk or to connect a USB printer.  The EA4500 can also be used as a NAS or print server, but not at the same time.

6. Does the EA4500 support remote management?

7. Can I connect a USB hub to read multiple USB drives on the USB port of the EA4500?

No.  The USB port of the EA4500 can only read one (1) USB drive at a time.

8. How many DHCP addresses can be reserved on the EA4500?

A maximum of 50 users can be logged in the DCHP reservation.

WIRELESS SECURITY

1. What is the default wireless network name (SSID) of the EA4500?

The default wireless network name (SSID) of the EA4500 is LinksysXXXXX where XXXXX is the last five (5) digits of the device’s serial number.

QUICK TIP:  Your router’s serial number is located underneath the device.  To know more on how to find the serial numbers of the different Linksys devices, click here.  You have to upgrade your firmware to have LinksysXXXXX as your default SSID.

2. How many security modes does EA4500 support?

The router supports the following wireless security options: WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode, WPA2 Personal, WPA Personal, WPA2/WPA Enterprise Mixed Mode, WPA2 Enterprise, WPA Enterprise, and WEP.

3. Does EA4500 allow VPN tunnels using IPSec, L2TP, or PPTP protocols to pass through the router?

Yes.  The EA4500 allow VPN tunnels using IPSec, L2TP, or PPTP to pass through the router.

4. Does EA4500 support SPI firewall?

Yes.  The E4500 supports SPI firewall. 

5. What is Web Filter?

Web Filter is a program that can screen an incoming Web page to determine whether some or all of it should not be displayed to the user.  It will also prevent Java, ActiveX, Cookies and Proxy applications from the Internet.

LEDs

1. What LEDs does the EA4500 have and what do they mean?

POWER   - When the router is powered ON, resets to factory defaults, or upgrades its firmware, the light flashes slowly every three (3) seconds.  When the router is ready for use, the light is continuously lit.  If there is an error, the light flashes quickly (every second).

 ETHERNET 1-4 (Yellow and Green) - These Ethernet ports connect the router to computers and other Ethernet network devices on your wired network using Ethernet cables.  The yellow light flashes to indicate network activity over that port.  The green light turns ON when the local network port is connected to a 10/100/1000 port with auto-MDIX.

 INTERNET (Yellow and Green) - Using an Ethernet cable, the Internet port connects the router to your Internet connection, which is typically a Cable or Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) modem.  The yellow light flashes to indicate network activity over that port.  The green light turns ON when the Internet port is connected to a 10/100/1000 port with auto-MDIX.

Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ button - If you have client devices, such as wireless printers, that support Wi-Fi Protected Setup™, you can press the WPS button to automatically configure wireless security for your wireless network.  To know how to connect devices using the WPS feature, click here.

FIRMWARE UPGRADE METHOD

1. How do I upgrade the firmware on the EA4500?

The new Linksys EA4500 router has an Auto Firmware Update feature.  With this, you will also be able to restore to a previously loaded firmware.  For more information, click here.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The EA4500 supports DynDNS.org and TZO.com providers.

2. How many connection types does the EA4500 support?

The router supports six (6) connection types: Automatic Configuration - DHCP, Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP, and Bridge Mode.

3. When would a user want to select Bridge Mode for an Internet Connection Type?

Select Bridge Mode if a user purchases multiple Internet IP addresses from their Internet Service Provider (ISP) and wants those IP addresses to pass onto devices behind the router.

4. Can I turn off the LEDs on the router?

Yes.  This can be done using the Linksys Connect software that came with the EA4500 or by using the web-based setup page.  For instructions, click here.

NOTE:  Only the rear port lights can be switched off.

5. Does the EA4500 have a built-in media server?

Yes.  It can stream music, pictures, or videos from the USB drive to a UPnP-compatible media adapter.

6. What are the supported media files on the EA4500 media server?

Below is a list of media file formats that are supported by the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, EA4500 media server.

9. Does the EA4500 support jumbo frames?

No.  The EA4500 does not support jumbo frames.

10. Does the EA4500 support the transmission of log information to a log server?

No.  The EA4500 does not support the transmission of log information to a log server.

11. What is Radio Band, Standard and Wide?

The Radio Band gives you two (2) options: Auto and Standard – 20 MHz channel, Standard channel is what all B/G/N devices will use.  If you select Wide channel for the radio band setting, then wireless-N can use two (2) channels: a primary one (Auto) and a secondary one (Standard Channel).  This will improve wireless-N performance.

12. What is MAC address clone and what is it used for?

Some ISPs will require you to register a MAC address in order to access the Internet.  If you do not wish to re-register the MAC address with your ISP, you may assign the MAC address you have currently registered with your ISP to the router using the MAC Address Clone feature.  For instructions on setting this up, click here.

13. What is Port Forwarding?

The Port Forwarding screen allows you to set up public services on your network such as web servers, FTP servers, e-mail servers, or other specialized Internet applications.

14. Can I select time zone and automatically adjust the clock?What is Port Triggering?

Yes.  You can select the time zone and automatically adjust the clock.

15. What is Port Triggering? Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and what is it used for?

Port Triggering will open ports based on the incoming port specified.  Check with your software application to find out what is necessary to enter in these fields.

16. What is Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and what is it used for?

The DMZ screen allows one local user to be exposed to the Internet for use of a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming and videoconferencing.  DMZ hosting forwards all the ports at the same time to one computer.  Port forwarding is more secure because it only opens the ports you want to have opened, while DMZ hosting opens all the ports of one computer, exposing the computer to the Internet.

17. Can I print a shared file in my computer while I'm connected to the Guest network?

No.  The Guest network is a secured network that provides ONLY Internet access to wireless devices with the router limiting communication with other computers.  It has a different password from the main network and does not allow file and printer access.

18. What is the Anonymous Disk Access feature on the EA4500 web-based setup page for?

When enabled, the Anonymous Disk Access allows anyone connected to your Linksys router to access the files on your storage device in Read and Write mode.  You can disable this feature to protect your files from being accessed by anonymous users.  For more information, click here.

19. Can I add or create a Game and an Application to the Priority list that are using the same port numbers?

No.  You can only add either but not both at the same time.
