Connecting your Android™ smartphone to a wireless network with SSID broadcast disabled

Disabling the wireless network name (SSID) is an added security feature of  the Linksys router.  You can connect your wireless devices by adding the network on your smartphone network list.  This article will show you how to connect your Android™ smartphone to the wireless network with the SSID broadcast disabled.

Before connecting, make sure you take note of the following:

  • wireless network name (SSID)
  • wireless security key or passphrase
  • Security mode or Encryption type (WEP, WPA, WPA2)

To proceed, follow these instructions below:

Step 1:
Tap your Home screen Menu then tap Settings.

Step 2:
Open Wireless & networks, then tap Wi-Fi Settings.

Step 3:
Turn ON your phone’s Wi-Fi.

NOTE:  Under Wi-Fi networks, a list of scanned available networks would automatically populate.

Step 4:
Under Wi-Fi networks, tap Add Wi-Fi network.

Step 5:
Enter the Network SSID.

Step 6:
Tap the Security type that your network is using.

Step 7:
Enter the network Password.

IMPORTANT:  Ensure that the wireless password that you are using to connect is correct as some security types are case-sensitive.

Step 8:
Tap Save.

The information about the network is saved.  Your device should connect to this network automatically the next time you come within range.
