How to troubleshoot connection problems with a PlayStation®4

Connecting your PlayStation®4 to the wireless network is now easy.  However, you may experience some wireless connection problems once in a while.  Below are some of the common reasons why the PlayStation®4 cannot connect to the wireless network:

Incorrect security settings
MAC Filtering is enabled on your Linksys router
Dropping/Intermittent connection with the wireless router
Unable to connect to an online game
Outdated system software version

Incorrect security settings

If your wireless network is secured, you need to take note of the following settings from your router to input in your console:
  • Wireless network name (SSID)
  • Wireless security mode
  • Security key

To learn how to check or change your wireless network’s settings using the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi, click here.  If your router has the Classic web-based setup page, click here.

MAC Filtering is enabled on your Linksys router

MAC Filtering is an added security feature on your Linksys router that can prevent or allow specific MAC addresses to be connected to your wireless network.  If this feature is enabled, you will need to add your console’s MAC address in the MAC Filtering tab of your Linksys router.  For details on how to do this on your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi, click here.

To know your console’s MAC address, go to Settings > System > System Information.

Dropping/Intermittent connection with the wireless router

Obstacles and interferences between your router and device may cause dropping or intermittent connection.  You may try moving your device closer to your wireless router to enhance the wireless signal.

Unable to connect to an online game

If you are experiencing connection problems in connecting to an online game, you may need to open ports on your Linksys router.  For step-by-step instructions on how to open ports on your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account, click here.

Outdated system software version

Your PlayStation®4 performs better if it has the latest system software installed.  To update your software version, go to Settings > System Software Update.  This will prompt to check and update your software.
