Setting up the Linksys Velop Mesh WiFi Extender using an Android device

The Linksys Velop Mesh WiFi Extender allows you to place nodes near smart home devices and hard to reach places like garages and hallways.

This article will teach you how to properly set up the Velop Extender using an Android™ device.  For setup instructions using an iOS device, click

Before you begin setting up, have the following ready:

 
  • Existing Velop network with a parent node
  • Working internet connection
  • The latest Linksys app installed in your mobile device
 

Directions

Step 1:
Launch the app and access the Dashboard.  For instructions, click
here.

Step 2:
Tap the menu User-added image icon then tap Set Up a New Product.

Step 3:
Tap on Add Another Node to xxxxxxxx, where xxxxxxxx is the name of your existing Wi-Fi.

Step 4:
Tap on To extend my Wi-Fi with a new child node.

Step 5:
You will be prompted to Turn on Bluetooth.  This step is recommended.

Step 6:
Read the instructions on How to place your node then tap Next.

Step 7:
Plug in the Velop Extender and tap Next once the light turns solid purple.

Step 8:
Wait for the app to start up the new node.  This could take a few minutes.

Step 9:
Tap Yes, it's Blinking Purple once you see the light of the new node blinking purple.

NOTE:  If you see otherwise, tap No, It's Not Blinking Purple and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 10:
Wait for the app to add the node to your Velop system.  This could take a few minutes.

Step 11:
SpotFinder will determine if the location is good.  Click Next or follow the suggested action.

NOTE:  The SpotFinder will provide suggestions on adjusting the location of the Velop Extender.  You can choose to follow the suggestions provided (recommended) or click on I'd like to leave it here.  If you are prompted to unplug and move the node closer, please wait until the light turns solid purple again.  After that, wait until the node finishes booting up before tapping on Try Again.

Step 12:
Now you can give your node a name.  Select a name for your node from the given options.

NOTE:  Alternatively, you can choose to Name it something else so you can customize the name to your preference then tap Next.

Step 13:
Great!  Now your node has been successfully added.  Tap Next to proceed.

Step 14:
Want to add another node?  Tap Add Another Node and click
here for instructions.  Otherwise, tap That's it for Now.

Step 15:
You're almost done!  On the Always fresh page, tap Next.

Step 16:
Your Wi-Fi should now be ready!  You can tap Go to Dashboard to view your settings.

Step 17:
Once you're back on the Dashboard, tap on the menu icon then go to Network Administration to view or do further configuration on your nodes.

Congratulations!  The setup for the Velop Extender is now complete.
