Setting up the Linksys MX5300 Velop AX Whole Home WiFi 6 System on an Android device

The Linksys MX5300 Velop AX Whole Home WiFi 6 System uses the latest Wi-Fi® 6 (802.11ax) standard to deliver true Gigabit speeds of up to 5.3 Gbps with 12-stream capacity throughout the entire home.  Follow the steps below to learn how to set up your Linksys MX5300 using an Android™ device.

NOTE:  You can also set up the Linksys MX5300 using a mobile device with iOS 11.4 or higher.

Requirements for setup
  • A modem or gateway with active internet connection
  • Linksys app version 2.10 or later for setup
  • Mobile device for setup:
    • Android 6 or higher 
  • Bluetooth® (preferred for setup)

Before you begin
 
  • If you are setting up two new Linksys MX5300 nodes, make sure to leave the child node OFF while the parent node is going through setup.   
 
 
Directions

Step 1:  
Launch the Linksys app.

Step 2:
Tap on Launch setup.

Step 3: 
Tap on the Turn on Bluetooth button.

NOTE:  Bluetooth is used for setup purposes only.

Step 4: 
Tap Allow.

Step 5:
Read the Terms and Conditions agreement and tap Agree to continue.


Step 6:
Setup will look for your node.

NOTE:  If you are prompted to select a router type, select the Velop Whole Home WiFi option.

Step 7:
Once your node has been detected and the light is blinking purple, tap Yes, it’s Blinking Purple.

Step 8:
Setup will now check for your internet connection.

Step 9:
Create a Linksys server account by entering an email address and password in the fields provided.  Tap Create Account to proceed.  If you already have an account, tap on Log in here and enter your credentials.

Step 10:
Setup will link your account.  This could take up to a minute.

Step 11:
Personalize your home Wi-Fi by creating a Wi-Fi name and Wi-Fi password.  Once done, tap Next.

NOTE:  If you'll be adding a child Linksys MX5300 to your network, you can now turn it ON.

If you are prompted to connect to your new Wi-Fi name, go to your mobile phone's Settings > Wi-Fi and connect to your new Velop Wi-Fi name.  If you closed the Linksys app, reopen it to continue setup.
 
Step 12:
The Linksys app will now configure your Velop network.

Step 13:
Select a node name then tap on Next.

NOTE:  It is recommended that the name corresponds to the actual location of your node in the home.  This will allow you to identify multiple nodes through the Linksys app.  To customize the name, tap Name it something else.

Step 14:
On the Success! screen, tap Next.

Step 15:
If you are adding another node, make sure the light is solid purple before tapping on Add Another Node.  Otherwise, tap on That’s it for Now.  You can also add a node later by logging in to the Velop dashboard.

Step 16:
Once the Always fresh screen appears, tap Next.

The node will perform a firmware check to verify if your node is up-to-date.  If a new firmware is available, the Linksys app will update automatically.  Otherwise, you will land on the Your Wi-Fi is ready screen and you can tap on Go to Dashboard.

IMPORTANT:  After setting up your node, change the Velop’s admin password.  A random, secure admin password will be created during setup (this password will not be displayed).  You will need the admin password to log in to your Velop system if you don’t have an internet connection or if the server is temporarily down for maintenance.
