Configuring the VLAN and LAN IPv4 Address of your Linksys LAPAC1750PRO and LAPAC2600 Access Points

The default wired interface settings, which include DHCP and VLAN information, might not work for all networks.  By default, the access point (AP) is a DHCP client.  If you want to set a static IP Address, you need to manually configure the IP Address and other network information.

The management VLAN is VLAN 1 by default.  This VLAN is also the default untagged VLAN.  If you already have a management VLAN configured on your network with a different VLAN ID, you must change the VLAN ID of the management VLAN on the access point.

To configure the VLAN settings, follow these instructions:

Step 1:
Access the AP's web-based setup page.  For instructions, click here.

Step 2:
Click Configuration > LAN > VLAN and IPv4 Address tab.  For Linksys LAPAC2600, select Configuration > LAN > Network Setup.

Step 3:
Enter a number between 1
~ 4094 in the Management VLAN ID.  For LAPAC2600, make sure to check the VLAN enabled box.

NOTE:  The Management VLAN is the VLAN associated with the IP Address you used to access the access point.  The default Management VLAN ID is 1.

Step 4:
Enter a number between 1
~ 4094 for the Untagged VLAN ID.  Traffic on the VLAN that you specify in this field will not be tagged with a VLAN ID.

Step 5:
To disable the untagged VLAN, choose VLAN Tagging as Tagged or uncheck Untagged VLAN depending on the model.  Ensure to connect the access point to a switch that supports VLAN Tagging.

NOTE:  If you disable the untagged VLAN, all traffic is tagged with a VLAN ID.

By default, all traffic on the access point uses VLAN 1, which is the default untagged VLAN.  This means that all traffic is untagged until you disable the untagged VLAN, change the untagged traffic VLAN ID, or change the VLAN ID for a VAP or client using RADIUS.

Step 6:
Select and configure your LAN IPv4 settings.  For Linksys LAPAC1750PRO, select the Connection Type.  For Linksys LAPAC2600, select an IP Setting either Automatic Configuration (DHCP) or Static IP Address.

  • If you select Automatic Configuration or DHCP, the access point acquires its IP Address, Subnet Mask, DNS, and Gateway information from a DHCP server.
  • If you select Static IP, you must enter the IP Address information in the Static IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway fields.
Step 7:
Configure your DNS settings.

QUICK TIP:  This is only for Linksys LAPAC1750PRO.

  • In Dynamic mode, the IP Addresses for the DNS servers are assigned automatically via DHCP.  This option is only available if you specified DHCP for the Connection Type.
  • In Manual mode, you must assign static DNS IP Addresses to resolve domain names.
Step 8:
Click Save to apply the changes and to startup configuration file.

NOTE:  Changing some settings might cause the access point to stop and restart system processes.  If this happens, wireless clients will temporarily lose connectivity.  It is recommended that you change the access point settings when WLAN traffic is low.
