Creating an ACL using your Linksys LAPAC2600 Wireless Access Point

The Access Control List (ACL) Profiles page on your Linksys LAPAC2600 Wireless Access Point allows you to configure some ACL Profiles and their rules.  ACLs are a collection of permit and deny conditions that can block any unwarranted attempts to reach the network's resources.
 
The Linksys LAPAC2600 supports up to 16 ACLs including IPv4, IPv6 and IP ACLs to classify traffic for Layers 3 and 4.  Each ACL is a set of up to 10 rules and each rule specifies whether the contents of a given field should be used to permit or deny access to the network.  Rules can be based on various criteria.  It may apply to one (1) or more fields with a packet and there is an implicit deny at the end of every rule created.

To control general categories of traffic, such as HTTP traffic or traffic from a specific subnet, you can configure ACLs and assign them to one (1) or more VAPs.  You will need to create an ACL (permit/deny rules) on the ACL page before you link an ACL on the ACL Association page.

Follow the steps below to create and associate ACLs on your Access Point (AP):

Creating ACL
 
Step 1:
Access your AP’s web-based setup page.  To know how, click here.
 
Step 2:
Click the Configuration tab and select ACL > ACL Profiles.
 
Step 3:
Enter a name into the ACL Name field.

NOTE:  This should be within the range of 1 ~ 32 alphanumeric characters only.
 
Step 4:
On the ACL Type section, select either IPv4 or IPv6 and click the Add ACL button.
 
Step 5:
To add a rule to a specific ACL, select the name from the ACL Names dropdown list.
 
Step 6:
Tick the Enable Rule checkbox and select a priority from the Rule Index list.
 
Step 7:
On the Action field, select Permit or Deny.
 
NOTE:  There is an implicit deny for traffic that does not match any rules.
 
Associating ACL
 
Step 1:
On the ACL category, click ACL Association.
 
Step 2:
Select the Radio.
 
Step 3:
Select the SSID Name.
 
Step 4:
On the ACL Name Down and ACL Name Up categories, select the ACL name you want to associate.
 
Step 5:
Click Save.

 
Modifying ACLs not in use

There are three (3) options to modify the ACLs not in use:

  • You can unbind the ACL from a specific wireless interface by selecting None on the ACL Association page.
  • If you don’t need an ACL, you can delete it.  To delete an ACL, select the ACL Name > Delete ACL.
  • If you like to delete a rule associated with an ACL, click Reset Index.  This rule will reset rules to default mode.  All matching criteria for this specified rule will be gone.
