Connecting your iPhone® to the Wi-Fi

The iPhone® is one of the most in-demand gadgets in the market today.  It supports the latest wireless technology so people can browse the internet, download files, and stream videos at remarkable speeds.

Using wireless connection, you can enjoy the following benefits and more:
  • Effortless and faster communication
  • Optimized media entertainment
  • Free internet connection
  • Convenience
Before setting up your iPhone's connection, you have to take note of the following:
  • Wi-Fi name
  • Wireless security mode
  • Security key (password / passphrase)
NOTE:  The Wi-Fi password is different from the router’s password.  If you don't have your wireless settings, access your router's web-based setup page.  For instructions on retrieving your wireless settings, click here.

Step 3:
Make sure the Wi-Fi is switched ON then tap your router’s Wi-Fi name.  In this example, linksyssmartwifirouter is used.

QUICK TIP:  You might wonder why the 5 GHz networks are not visible on the list.  This is because the iPhone versions prior to the iPhone 5 can only detect the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.  This includes your 2.4 GHz Guest network if it is enabled on your Linksys device.

Step 4:
Enter your router’s wireless security key or Password and tap Join.  If the Wi-Fi is unsecured, your iPhone should be able to connect to it automatically after tapping the Wi-Fi name.

NOTE:  Your Wi-Fi security key or password is case-sensitive.  If you encounter the error message Incorrect password for "linksyssmartwifirouter", tap Dismiss and re-enter your password correctly.

Other things to remember

If you are having problems connecting your Apple® devices to your Wi-Fi , try to do any of the following:
  • If you are connecting to the Wi-Fi with WEP encryption, enter the “$” sign followed by the network key.  If you still cannot connect to the Wi-Fi, change your router's security mode to WPA or WPA2 Personal and enter a password that you can easily remember.
  • Check the AirPort®   icon in the upper-left corner of the screen for the signal strength of the connection between your router and your Apple devices.
  • If you are still unable to connect to the secured Wi-Fi despite entering the correct security key or password, you may try powering your Apple devices OFF then turning them back ON.
  • You may also try disabling the network security settings first then reconnect your Apple devices to the network.  Once you have connected to the Wi-Fi, try setting up your router’s wireless security settings again.
  • If you encounter the Unable to join the network error message, it could mean that the Wireless MAC Filter feature of your router is enabled, or the DHCP Server is disabled.  You need to make sure that the Wireless MAC Filter of your router is disabled and the DHCP Server is enabled to be able to connect to the Wi-Fi.  You may also need to check the wireless settings of your router.
