Setting up port triggering for VPN connection

The VPN Passthrough feature on your Linksys router or node is a way for a home computer to safely connect to an office VPN and is enabled by default.  However, if you cannot establish a VPN connection between your home and office, you can configure port triggering on the router or node.

Port triggering sets up the router or node so that computers on a home network can access services on the internet such as web servers, FTP servers, email servers, game servers or other internet applications.  You can consult your office IT support to find out the port/s you need to trigger as they are different for every VPN application.

In this article, you will learn how to set up port triggering for VPN connection on your router or node.  The steps here are based on the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi web interface.  If the web interface of your router looks different, you can consult the user guide for your router on its support page to learn where to find the Port Range Triggering section.

Step 1:
Log in to the router or node's web interface.  For instructions, click on the appropriate links below:

For other routers, follow this step:

Launch a web browser and enter “http://myrouter.local” or “192.168.1.1” in the Address bar then press [Enter].  When it prompts you for your login credentials, provide the required information.  If you don't have a password enter "admin" in the password field.  Press [Enter].

Step 2:
On the web interface home page, click on Security.
