Setting up a static IP address on the PlayStation®4

Setting up the static IP address in your gaming console is needed to establish port forwarding in your router.  Port forwarding allows data from Internet or gaming applications to pass through the firewall of the router.  This will help ensure a smooth and seamless connectivity for gaming and video streaming.

This article will guide you on how to set a static IP address on your PlayStation®4 (PS4™).  Before you begin, please take note of the following items below:
  • You must know your router’s local IP address, Subnet Mask and DNS server values.  You can check them in your router’s settings.  For instructions, click here.  If you have a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, click here.
  • Make sure that the router has been set up and is able to connect to the Internet wired or wirelessly.  If you need help with setting up your router, click the link that applies to your Internet Service Provider (ISP):

Step 1:

Step 2:
On your Network screen, select Set Up Internet Connection> Use LAN Cable > Easy.

NOTE:  You can also use Set Up Internet Connection > Use Wi-Fi > Easy.

Step 3:
Under the IP Address Settings, select Manual.

Step 4:
In this step, you will need to manually enter the values for your IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS, and Secondary DNS.  To do this, select the item you want to edit and then enter the values required.  Once finished entering the values, select Done.

Step 5:
When you are done filling out the details required, select Next to proceed.

Step 6:
Select MTU Settings > Automatic.

Step 7:
For Proxy Server, select Do Not Use.

Step 8:
Select Test Internet Connection.  Once you are connected to your network, you may now return to your home screen.
