Where can I disable the SSID broadcast in the Linksys app or the LinksysSmartWiFi.com page

The Linksys app and the LinksysSmartWiFi.com page no longer provide the option to disable the SSID broadcast of your router.

Disabling the SSID broadcast hides the router by not broadcasting the WiFi name so that unauthorized users could not see it. However, there are possible drawbacks to a network when the SSID broadcast is disabled:

  • Legitimate users and other devices and services in the home network are prevented from seeing the router and connecting to it.
  • A hidden SSID is not compatible with Wi-Fi Protected Setupâ„¢ (WPS), which Linksys supports.
  • There is no security benefit in hiding the SSID as there are a variety of tools that can show the SSID even when it is not broadcasted.

The best way to protect the WiFi from unauthorized users is to set a strong WiFi password, which is done automatically when you set up the router and is easily managed using the Linksys app or the LinksysSmartWiFi.com page.

If the router’s SSID broadcast is disabled when it was installed, it will continue to be hidden until the router is reset to factory settings. Once it is reset and reinstalled, the SSID broadcast will be enabled automatically.
